"MTX Plus+" Video

Overview

MTX computers use the same Video Display Processor (VDP) as the Japanese MSX computers released in 1983, a Texas Instruments TMS 9929A (UK/PAL) or TMS 9918 (US/NTSC).

MSX2 was released in 1986 using a Yamaha V9938 VDP and MSX2+ was released in 1988 using a Yamaha V9958 VDP. These Yamaha VDPs are based on the TI chip and are backward software compatible with them.

Since the chip is compatible with MTX software, and no doubt influenced by the fact that Lez has included it in his kit of parts, MTXPlus+ will use the V9958 VDP. In MTX mode, MTXPlus+ will be limited to the video features available in the TMS9918, but in enhanced mode, will be able to use the additional features in the V9958.

For some additional information on using the V9958, see the video section on the Notes page.
