Megastar Revisited

In recent years, there has been resurgence of 1980s computer games as middle aged (or older!) men try to relive their youth by playing those long lost games on modern hardware such as mobile phones and tablets. Jim Wills (Megastar Games) has a long held ambition to help service that need by porting one of Megastar's favorite games, DownStream Danger, to new hardware.

For a variety of reasons, progress on that front has been slow, but may just pick up pace now that Jim, with a great deal of assistance from Martin Allcorn, has been able to recreate all of the levels in DownStream Danger. As part of reverse engineering the original game file, Martin has been able to generate a complete map for DownStream Danger and has also recreated 20 levels from Rolla Bearing.

Jim has agreed that these files can be posted here for anyone who'd like to remind themselves of these 1980s "classics", with some restrictions . . . .

DownStream Danger and Rolla Bearing were written by Tony Butterfield and both remain copyrighted works of Tony and Megastar Games. The game maps are made available for free download but are restricted to personal use only. If anyone intends to use these works elsewhere or develop commercial products based on them, permission is required from the original author and publisher. Contact details are available on request.

Extracts from the bitmap images are reproduced on this page, the complete image are quite large and not formatted for web page use but can be downloaded as zip files by clicking on the relevant image.
