Memotech MTX500 vintage computer

I have just connected it to an analogue television and it displayed 'READY' and the cursor flashed. I typed in a couple of simple basic programmes and it seemed to work ok.

Some of the keys bounce, giving repeated characters. It seemed to be getting better as I worked with it so it may be that the contacts need a bit of use after 20 years in storage. Or maybe they need to be cleaned or replaced. As it warmed up, the modulator frequency drifted slightly so the TV had to be fine-tuned, but no more than any of my other old machines. The label is missing from the power supply. I haven't tried loading software from tape. The computer is in its original expanded polystyrene box and cardboard outer box. The computer comes with the original operator's manual, dated 1983, and a couple of pieces of sales literature. There are no software tapes with it. Memotech RS 128 Power Supply RF lead The Memotech RS128 is the successor of the Memotech MTX 512. It looks like the MTX 512 and has almost the same characteristics. Tested and working. TV output is good but couldn't get perfect photo due of tv screen refreshing rate (50hz). Tried all keyboard buttons and they seem to work but I don't have any peripherals for it so cannot test it more.

You are bidding on a c1983 Memotech MTX 512. These machines are quite rate and only appear on Ebay now and again.

This example is in decent cosmetic condition considering its age. (It is getting on 30 years old!). The case is a little loose in places. This machine comes with its original power supply and a TV aerial cable. It also comes with an external rom board marked as NW/15856 (MTX ROM EXTENSION). I have no idea what this board is or does or even if it works, so it's sold as is. The machine also comes with a couple of cables for connecting a cassette player (not pictured). The machine doesn't come with any documentation. I have been unable to get this machine to work with my LCD TV, the closest being a black screen so it is being sold as Spares / Repairs / For Parts Not Working and comes with no warranty of any kind. The red light on the power supply comes on and it makes a beeping noise through the TV but as I cannot guarantee it works, so it is sold as not working. Starting price of £0.99. Very rare machine, especially in this condition. I bought the machine as a MTX500 in the 1980's. The box states it is a MTX500 and the serial no. on the back of the machine is 500/17628 but for some reason the logo on the front of the machine says MTX512 (apparently this is not unheard of, maybe the company on the verge of bankruptcy had run out of 500 casings, I don't know I'm just guessing but the machine is genuine and has 32K ram.) In my opinion the finest vintage machine there is with its sturdy aluminium casing and the last machine in my collection to go. It has been stored away carefully in a dry safe place until now (not loft!) and consequently it is in super condition as can be seen from the photos, just some very minor scuffs, and comes complete with original box, poly inners, instruction manual, psu and all cables. The box does have some storage wear but has done a good job of protecting the contents. I must point out that the poly inners, although perfectly intact, have some numbers scratched on the top (can't remember why I did that!) I input a little program as shown and the computer worked fine (any lines or dark bands are the result of photographing an old crt television and don't appear in real life). I have never loaded a cassette and I don't now have the means to do this but there is no reason why it should not work, although I'm afraid I can give no absolute guarantees.

This machine is so beautiful with its all metal casing that words cannot describe it!! Very very rare in any condition- in this condition virtually unique!! In my opinion the finest vintage machine there is and the pride of my collection, it breaks my heart to have to sell it. I bought it new in the 1980's and it has been stored away carefully in a dry safe place until now (not loft!) and consequently it is in perfect condition and comes complete with original box, poly inners, instruction manual, power pack and cables, all also in perfect condition. It originally came with a demonstration cassette, blank tape and games tape "Toado" although I have since acquired another three games tapes which are also included.
