6 Channel Hub
The
6 Channel Hub
allows you to connect six different 1-wire “sub-networks” in a star
topology. (See our discussion of
network topology
for more information on hubs.)
The 6 Channel Hub has eight RJ45 connections.
One of the connections is a 1-Wire “in”,
which should be connected to a
Serial Adaptor
or
USB Adaptor
using one of our
Adaptor Cables,
or your own adaptor cable. One of the connections is a 1-Wire “out”, and the six
additional connections are the 6 hub channels. Each of the six channels, as well as the
“out”, can be connected to a 1-wire sub-network using standard network cables. The
“out” is a pass-through to the “in”, with the addition of supplemental power. The other
six channels consist of three main channels and three auxiliary channels that are
controlled by the three DS2409 chips. It does not matter which of these connections are
used for the various parts of your 1-Wire network. You will need to specify, in your
software, which of these channel is used for each of your devices. (Please see your
software documentation for further details on how to specify hub channels.)
The 6 Channel Hub can optionally add supplemental power to the six channels and to the
“out”, acting as a Power Injector. This adds regulated (5 volts) and unregulated (15 volts
if using our Power Adaptor, or the voltage supplied by your power adapter) supplemental
power to unused wires on the Cat 5 cable. Supplemental power is controlled by two
jumpers on the board. Each jumper is clearly marked. The board is shipped with
jumpers connected, providing both regulated and unregulated power to all outputs. If you
do not want the hub to provide supplemental power, you can remove one or both of the
jumpers. This will disable the appropriate supplemental power from all outputs; there is
no way to control power output individually for each channel. Please see the description
of our
Power Injector
for more details of power on the 1-Wire network.
If you need to know the actual wiring of our RJ45 connectors, please refer to our
instructions on how to
wire the cable connectors.
The 6 Channel Hub requires power, even if you do not use the supplemental power
feature. It must be connected to a mains outlet through an AC power adaptor that
provides 12-24 volts DC, 500mA, through a 2.1mm center positive connector.
